Warhammer 40K Newcastle Team Event Report – Clumsy Orc Weekend Round-Up

5 games. 2 days. One very tired team — and one of the best Warhammer weekends we’ve had.

The Newcastle Team Event delivered exactly what you want from a weekend of Warhammer — competitive games, great opponents, and a proper immersive experience where you’re fully locked in from start to finish.

It’s one of those events where you don’t just play — you learn, adapt, and come away a better player.

Quick Results

  • 🏆 Individual: 3 Wins / 1 Draw / 1 Loss
  • ⚔️ Team: 2 Wins / 1 Draw / 2 Losses
  • 🧠 Army: Eldar Wraith Host (Spirit Host)

The Army – Eldar Wraith Host

For this event, I ran an Eldar Wraith-focused list (Spirit Host) — something I’m still getting to grips with.

Truthfully, I don’t think the list needs changing…
but let’s be honest — half the fun is tweaking and experimenting 👀

Big takeaway:

Wraiths don’t win fast — they win by surviving.

You’re not outpacing your opponent. You’re absorbing pressure early, controlling the mid-game, and letting them run out of tools.

Friday – Getting Started

We arrived Friday, got set up, and jumped straight into a couple of games.

It’s always the best way to settle in — get the reps in, shake off any rust, and of course… squeeze in some last-minute hobbying 😅

Because let’s be real — it wouldn’t be Warhammer without it.

Day 1 – Into the Fight

You wake up Day 1 with that mix of excitement and nerves — ready to get stuck in.

Game 1 – Chaos Space Marines (Huron)

A tough opener and my only loss of the weekend.

Result: 5–15

This was a great learning game. First proper test of the list, and I know I could have played it better.

As a team, we struggled here — strong opponents and slightly off pairings didn’t help.

Game 2 – vs our very own Tomas F and his Custodies

A really enjoyable and competitive game.

I missed a few key tricks which got punished (as they should), but managed to grind out a:

Result: 10–10 draw

This was also our first team win (against Clumsy B 👀), which gave us a big boost going into the next round.

Game 3 – Necrons

This is where things clicked.

I’m comfortable into Necrons and played the matchup exactly how I needed to — focused damage, controlled the board, and took over the game.

Result: 16–4 win

Team result: a solid draw to close out Day 1.

Day 1 Reflections

Wraiths are incredibly durable, but not fast.

You’re often the one taking the first punch — and the key is staying patient and trusting the process.

When it works, it feels like your opponent is just slowly breaking themselves against your army.

Evening – Reset

After a long day, we grabbed a takeaway, had a good laugh (some absolute nonsense was spoken), and reset for Day 2.

Day 2 – Pushing On

Fuelled by questionable McDonald’s coffee ☕, we were back at it.

Game 4 – Custodes (Rematch Energy)

I’d learned from the earlier game and played this one much cleaner.

Result: 16–4 win

Unfortunately, as a team we narrowly lost — pairings just didn’t quite go our way.

Game 5 – Chaos Space Marines

I was ready for this one.

Obliterators were a concern early, but once they were dealt with, the game shifted heavily in my favour.

By the end, only a handful of models remained.

Result: 17–3 win

And importantly — a team win to finish the weekend strong 💪

Final Thoughts

Individual: 3 Wins / 1 Draw / 1 Loss
Team: 2 Wins / 1 Draw / 2 Losses

Honestly — I’ll take that all day with a list I’m still learning.

But more than results…

This is what it’s really about.
